In the beginning...Faces

I am starting this new blog to showcase the paintings and drawings that I do. I hope that my readers will want to see the work as a whole. I thought about a website, but I just can't "face" getting in to all that right now. So.

This was done with color blocks and a watercolor brush. Just trying things out.

The quality of the face drawing I have done varies immensely as you can see. All I can say is that I think that I am getting better over all.

This from a photo of a cousin a few years younger than I.
A gentleman I photographed in a coffee shop. (with his gracious permission).

Vicki is the one who started me on faces. She drew many of them and drew them well. I just had to give it a try. OUr styles are very different but we are both better than when we started.
My father above and my cousin on the right. Two of my heroes.

Looking at what you have done when you are at a remove - as when you photograph and then copy to the computer- shows you what you have done well and what needs improvement.  Harry's eyes are really crooked.

Drew, above, and Chris at the right. I haven't drawn Justin or Dustin yet but I will.

I cut faces out of the newspapers or take photos of people whose faces are interesting. They are all a challenge in one way or another.

I will post more faces as I draw them unless I figure out how to make a gallery separate from the blog.
This one is Frederick Buechner. I also have a photo of Katherine Paterson, one of my favorite authors for older children, who wrote The Bridge to Terabithia

another page of this blog will deal with paintings.
